A Bryston 4B Pro (provided it's in overall good condition) for $700 is not a bad deal. I'd say go for it.

Great sounding amp with excelent damping and image.

I run mine with Kimber 8TC cable to the monitors which makes a BIG difference in spectral balance and low end clarity.

Used to have heavy Monster Cable on mine and while it sounded decent, the bottom end was way too big and puffy.

NS-10 never soun so good, also run a set of BBSM-8 on one and used to work at a place that used a set of bridged ones on UREI 813 which souned excellent as well.

Which incarnation is this amp?

I think it's one of the first from the 80s... i can just imagine where it's been.

4B is a great amp. Doesn't sag as much as a 3B does. but of course, that depends on the speakers they're supplying juice to as well.

I slightly prefer a good old AB amp, myself, but Bryston and Yammy are both great amps.

wait....what class is the 4B? Just class A?

From what I understand, class AB is generally preferred to class D, but how much better is class AB to class A? Eh...I r noob

Ok, I got an Emotiva XPA-5 last year, and it sounds very clear, but does anyone know how it would compare to an old 80s Bryston 4B for two channel content? Like, if you had to listen to all of your albums, and you had to choose either the modern XPA-5 or vintage Bryston 4B, which would you choose?

I had this impression that a dedicated 2ch amp would be a step ahead most comparable 5ch amps when it comes to music listening - amiright?

can anyone point out the benefits of using an old 80s Bryston 4B over say, one brand new Emotiva XPA-2 or two XPA-100s???

I'm confused.

Btw, this is a pic of my old setup, but those are my current monitors:

Think the 4B will have a problem with those? lol.

The guitar rig kontrol board has since been replaced with a RME Babyface, and the Gateway FHD2400 with a Dell U2711. PC is also different now too.

Also have sennheiser HD650s put away.

The Bryston is a classAB amp.

The ideal amp for audio is a class A amp but they tend to be low powered and are hugely inefficient. The inefficiency shows itself in the fact that they get very, very hot since they draw full power even when no signal is applied.
You wouldn't want to be in the studio with a large class A amp on a hot summers days.

Have a look here:

I'm running an XPA2 and it is sounds great. Very heavy amp that looks well constructed for a fair price. Never used a Bryston and bet that is awesome.

Don't know Emotiva, but from doing some searching and the results I got as well as comments I read, I would steer clear of them.

Mind you, this is just my gut feeling!

Welp, I'll be finding out pretty soon how they compare, as I have an XPA-5 for the HT, and have a Bryston 4B Pro on the way.

I feel like this guy:

You found a bad review of an Emotiva amp?

Where? I just waded through 5 pages of google results and found nothing but praise except from some some peoples comments who look at nothing but the retail price to make up their minds.
