Yeah Yeah I'm in the market for a Vocal Preamp

I am just going to be recording vocals, bass and guitars. I have had Api's Vintech's now I'm looking at the chameleon labs 7602. I have the 002 pre's so I want something with a noticeable difference. Neve sound is good. I just don't want to spend more than $800.

DAV BG-1.

Clean, big and enough juice to run ribbons.

2 ch = $700.

checkmate.

I am beginning to beleive this DAV preamp can settle the mid east crisis.

I have never seen a product pushed so hard on this forum.

I agree, is this mic pre really going to give me a noticeable upgrade in sound compared to the 002 pre's. I like having a little colour with the chameleon, but am totatlly in the box when it comes to mixing so I can always add that later. I wouldn't mind a totally clean pre, as long as it really captures an amazing sound, and can be mixed well. My main problem with the dav stuff is it's not rack mountable. That really bums me out.

That is my problem with alot of "higher end" single channel pres too. I mean over a grand for a box that has to sit somewhere on you desk with xlr cords yanking it off the table

I think I'm just going to go with the chameleon, I tried it out it's pretty cool. All I really need is one channel. I just wanted someone to talk me out of it if they felt inclined. I'm coming from a vintech x73i, for my purposes I need something with a little color but not so much for my only channel besides the 002. the vintech had a great sound but mayble a little too much low mids for my vox bass and guitars. I don't know maybe I'll regret selling it but I'm not rich and I want to try other options.

I passed on it because it sounded "harder" to me than the ADL-600 and some of the others that I listened to, like the Phoenix DRS-2, the API, the ADL-600, which I bought. Of course, the ADL-600 is also a lot more dough.

$800? Harsh, if all ya need is one channel, and you want clean, with some sheen if you add transformer? With some class to the sound? With that description, I would also look at the Speck 5.0

http://www.speck.com/mp50/mp50.shtml

Plus, then if you like them, you can chain them together to make a mixer...even rig them with SPECK EQs and other gear...pretty cool approach, actually...

Best,

Mark

I haven't used a Chameleon, but isn't it a neve knock off? Why sell one for another?

The DAV pre-amps have negotiated hostage release, brought safer working conditions to African diamond miners and were responsible for locating Saddam in his underground bunker.

Harsh, have you been able to use the Chameleon in your environment? If so and you like it, it seems like a no-brainer.
