After St. Anger, they deserve to lose all their money. New one is coming too, wooopeeee! Watching Lars speak on public TV during the napster "watergate hearings", I couldnt decide whether he was Bill, or Ted.....

If they had a 95% restocking fee for returning the last cd, I would fight hard for my quarter ....ehe~!

And this has what to do with Metallica, I have no idea.

Also, availability changes in different countries and some albums are partial, mostly because of contractual stuff.

I think it's funny how people submit petitions to iTunes in the form of playlists urging them to add acts that aren't represented. Like iTunes wasn't aware of the Beatles and it was an oversight or something.

I can't ever find who I'm looking for on iTunes. Lots of artists are missing, and major parts of other artist's catalog.

Metalica was my favorite band in their hayday, (Whiplash/ Kill Em All/Ride The Lightning)... but as soon as I heard "In Justice for All", I knew they were heading down the path of "commercial mass destruction". I forgot about 'em after that... So they are still making music?

It's amazing how some bands don't know when to call it a day and just go live on some huge @ss boat in the Caribbean... with strippers and 8balls abound...

Hmmm, I scratched my head when I first saw your sig also. However, I didnt deem it neccesary to call you on it, or to question you about it. So I guess to answer your question as best as I can, no, I am not joking. Simple enough?

well, dirt is a much better album than anything metallica ever produced, and every bit as horribly overproduced.

I so rarely start threads.

It's very gratifying to see one that I started evolve into a thoughtful, wide ranging discussion of the changing nature of the music business.

Point taken Joeq.

Lars and the boys didn't like peer-to-peer file sharing, because in that scenario they got no cash.

This make Metallica angry.

In the case of iTunes Metallica does receive money.

So, truth is I'm not sure what their concession to iTunes signifies, or why they held out so long. Why, for example, is Radiohead holding out? I suppose they make more money selling cds, and people will buy Radiohead cds.

Anyone know what the artist makes from iTunes sales? A percentage, an initial lump sum?

I don't think the decision to be or not to be on iTunes is based on principles, artistic or political. I think it comes down to the cash.
