How's Business - mid year 2006

How's everyone doing mid-2006 - big and small studios chime in. Some of my friends are booked solid through the end of the year - some are scrounging. What's going on with you?

I'm an individual, not a "studio" and do live sound, recording and mixing. Business is almost too good - only one day off in the past two weeks, and clients telling me I should raise my rates (They are right!). More of everything, live PA, recording in studio and concert, and making product from the recordings...

Hoping August slows down so I can finish some projects, and I have bookings right thru the end of the year and some in the Spring. Best thing is 90% repeat business and no need to advertise or look for clients. The other ten percent is referrals or people who have had me do their live sound ask for recording too.

Better than ever this year.

The worst I EVER had it was after 9/11 (Like most people) that last quarter, Oct, Nov, Dec I literally made $1,024 from my studio and things didnt pick up fully for years. Big bands were pulling release dates and everything was thrown out of whack.

The F'd up thing is when we get hit again (sorry but unfortunately it will happen) depending on the strike, people are going to tighten up again. So apply the saying, "In times of plenty prepare for times of need"

Comfortably chugging along. Changing to some alternative advertising venues... Hopefully that won't rock the boat...

Doing better than last year, not book solid, but enought. Plus I got Married. So, so far so good.

Glad to hear people are doing well.

I would say I'm doing pretty good but it would be hard to imagine myself being booked through summer 2007... I record mostly R&B / Hip-Hop (I'm in Atlanta) and though I stay booked up for about 3 weeks out, when a new client calls they are shocked that I can't get them in for two or three weeks.... and I hate turning away new clients cause I feel like if I get them in here they won't want to work with anyone else.... Sadly, most of them are on very short deadlines and end up going elsewhere.... I really need to clone myself

Full up since opening day (sans x-mas-N. year week). I don't ask what the future looks like as things change week by week. Last I heard we were full thru september and just heard more chatter about another multi-month booking for late fall

Started the year with a 3 month project on one group and since then have been booked doing sound design about 30-50 hours per week...expected to last until 1st quarter 2007 and beyond...with 2 other clients waiting in the wings.

So Cool that everybody is working solidly!
I had a busy Year so far, though my main client is taking a production break for some time, in about a month from now. I plan to get my Music up to speed and record basics for a couple Albums. There's also some great Local bands that want to book my place, one for recording and one for mixing...we'll see wht the future holds...

2006 started out stronger than any year I can remember. Don't recall being balls to the wall that early - in Jan and Feb - during any year before. Mid 2006 is strong on session and production work and studio consulting and gear sales. Got enough going on to have just sunk a pile of cash into a room we've designed from the ground up for a studio behind our house. I've already got the gear. Sinking the $ into real estate.

i'm also in Atlanta, and that's how I seem to operate as well. I stay booked 3 - 6 weeks out.
