Gearslutz got me in trouble at work!

I come into work the other day. My boss runs up to me... "We need to talk!"

"Okay."

"You were on porn sites during your shift last Thursday and Saturday nights!"

"I was? No I wasn't."

"The internet here is monitored - they caught you... fess up!"

"I'm telling you - I didn't go on any porn sites!"

"I have to take care of a bunch of things - we'll talk about this later."

She storms off. Sure enough, a couple hours later, I get a phonecall from her.

"You were on Gearslutz.com."

"Mary... have you ever been to Gearslutz.com?"

"No..."

"Have the higher-ups who are accusing me of visiting porn sites at work ever visited Gearslutz.com?"

"No..."

"It's a forum for recording engineers and producers. There aren't even any pictures, much less porn."

"Oh.... [long pause] Well regardless, you're no longer allowed to use the internet during your shift!"

Hysterical, but kinda sucks that I'm banned from the comp now! Thanks slutz!! Gosh!

Just in case you didn't know, the no porn pictures thing isn't entirely tru. They might have come across the Jacklynn royer/portico thread "Nice Pair"

Where do you work?

Lodge a formal complaint. You haver been reprimanded and rules have been enforced specifically on you for, what? Following internet access protocol properly? Go to your boss that reprimanded you and explain that you understand what are OK sites and which aren't, but you haven't violated policy at all but have had actions enforced upon you and would like to place a formal complaint, This is an educational forum. We don't really discuss why AC/DC is better than Led Zeppelin or why Nickelback sucks - OK, there was a few threads on this, but this really is a forum of discussion and answers. But I guess if you're working at MACYs, then maybe ya shouldn't be reading this during work hours.

Most places I've worked at have blanket internet policies that dont allow you to use the internet at all. They make you sign an internet policy on the first day of work along with a thousand other papers you would never have time to read. Then they nail you when you break a rule from the policy you signed. "Didn't you read our policy on that?tutt

What the hell is the point of giving everyone access to the internet, if you're just gonna forbid them to use it? It's a simple matter for network admins to block access to the WWW.....

Yeah that's sad.
I work at a communication/IT company, and 10 years ago, they used to encourage people to browse the net so that everybody in the company could become pros of web.

But a few years later, they realized that people were just using it to download warez from the multiple T3 connections, or to download porn.. lol

Nowadays, we can only use it for career-oriented browsing. Gearslutz falls into that category for me, and they better not bother me with that!!

If you ever have to surf anywhere anonymously YOU MUST USE THIS:

www.proxify.com

For a few bucks you can pay for the full feature set which includes ssl and post forms, etc.

However while I know that it prevents websites from seeing who you are I'm not sure if it prevents someone monitoring where you surf to from going back and seeing what you looked at...

At a hotel? Damn, grap a laptop and go wifi and keep up with all our chit-chat while at work. In NYC I'm sure you'll find an unsecured wireless network to piggyback onto. Illegal? In NY I don't think so, unethical, well thats your own call

Yeah... but if he "grabbed that laptop" legitimately (instead of swiping one), it would really bite into his new microphone fund... Those wifi charges can kill you too! It's getting harder and harder to find free wifi in the bigger cities...

Ha!!

Imagine reading/posting to a 40+ page GS thread on Analog vs. Digital, with a Treo!?

I'd save my GS time for home or the occasional visit to a coffee shop instead.

Thrill, you may want to look into a 12 step.

Hell, I read GS daily on an Audiovox SMT5600 using the free Opera Mini. Very speedy and readable, even loading graphics and using "small font" option to fit more on the screen at once.

Smartphones were made for forum browsing. I'm never bored anymore nor am I ever stuck without bathroom reading material. Yes I may have, at some point, given you some shi**y advice... literally. That and music and videos... seriously, I tend to gush over this thing, even after owning it a year. It it one amazing cell phone, and one that got absolutely no marketing push. They have a newer version out with even faster internet and higher-rez screen.

Had the Nokia 3650 a while back. Great little phone too. It used the Symbian OS, WAP, etc. I was thinking about picking up a Treo after seeing a friends in action. I'm currently on the SLVR iTunes phone, which is nice.

PSA...Wash your hands after using Improv's phone.

Some of us consider our contributions here as our real work in life... yeah, in my mind I'm the Walt Whitman of messageboards... of course I would never admit it.

Ohh, those wifi charges are rediculous, hence just poke around and find an unsecure network to piggyback onto. I would definately recommend you get your microphones before getting a laptop just to read our comments. Sure you'll learn a lot, but what good is that when your microphone budget drops back to $4.28

Maybe at your next job you make an agreement that you must have access to the internet to keep tabs on this forum.

I got accused of having a porn video on my computer at a old job a few years ago.
I denied it then they said what is the file " Hit me One More Time .mov" ?
I said it was a Britney Spears music video, there was silence in the room.
I guess nobody had looked at it!
