NJ/NY Help! HR824 Emergency!!!

I just blew a woofer on one of my HR824’s. Does anyone out there have a replacement or a whole monitor that I could borrow to get through the weekend?

I’ll be at the studio until 2am tonight and from 12noon tomorrow. Call me there if you help. 973-605-5155

Much thanks in advance.

All you need to make a record is a mic, some tape and maybe some bad reverb...

Whooo Hoooo!!! Problem solved!

Nathanael from Media Artistry called me up and loaned me an HR824 to get through my weekend of mixing. The best part is that he lives 10 minutes away from me.

Now I need to call Wackie on Monday and order a spare set of drivers. Funny enough, but it was actually the only spare I don't have around here. I have spares for the console, the MCI, my nearfields etc. Figures right?

The big question is, how do I actually pull out the old driver? I took the torx screws out but they look like they hold the front plate to the cabinet. Do I have to pull the amp off and go through the back?

It must be blow up a mackie week.

I had a set of HR824s go belly up due to a large power surge on site at a live gig this week.

I'm hoping they have some sort of fuse or the amps are probably toast.

Argh...can't remember specifically (used to be a tech at Mackie), but I do seem to remember it isn't as simple as just taking out the six screws and popping the LF driver out the front.

Unless things have changed in the last few years, good luck trying to get them to just mail you a new driver - they used to want you to send the whole thing in rather than just shipping out a replacement driver, so they could re-test and re-calibrate the whole shebang back to original factory spec before sending it back out (which is cool of them, in a lot of ways, but means more downtime).

How are you guys blowing woofers? There's a lot of protection circuitry built in to those things to keep that from happening (another reason they may want you to send it in - if you're actually making it past the protection circuitry to blow a driver, there may be something else wrong with it).

I was thinking that as well cause it sounds like more then a woofer might be wrong with it. I think it's a combination of things that blew it. I haev to thank UA for making their UAD 1 card version 3.3 pop so loud that it scared the shit out of me. And a bunch of times. I think that was part of it and then just low frequency volume. Just your average rock volume though. Nothing stupid. I don't know? This is a REAL bummer though obviously.
