My AES Gear Highlights

Pulse Techniques:

I'd been waiting to hear these in person, and am happy to report that, not only do they sound totally ace, but they've expanded the line to every Pultec variant (including the rare 'S' model)

..I want them all. NOW

Undertone Audio:

Piece of the show--The UTA UnFairchild

..."does it really sound like a 670?" I don't really give a crap. Whatever it is, it's fabulous, and a complete no brainer for $5500. (I have a Fairman TMC, so I'm hip to what high end Vari Mu's are supposed to sound like)

Prism Sound:

After chatting with Leif Masses for a good hour, I was happy to see the Prism Sound Lyra. Pretty much the perfect starter Mastering Rig one could ever hope to have @ $2400

Steven Slate:

The Crazy looking (and probably crazily expensive) Raven MTX aside, the new Slate Monitors sounded ballsy

Antelope Audio:

The Orion is going to be a big hit. For the amount of channels and Sound quality, people will happily drop the $3,000 for it

PMC:

As to be expected, the twotwo series continue PMC's lineage as some of the finest monitors around

Burl Audio:

The Burl Booth Babes smelled very nice. The Orca Monitor Controller looks killer. And, anyone up for going 32 channels out of Orion into the Burl 32x2 Vancouver Summing Mixer? Me too!

No pictures of the burl booth babes I'm afraid. There was some amazing gear on show from all manufacturers though. Personal highlights for me were the Cartec THC, the unfairchild, the aurora console, the tree audio roots, The Burl B32, the Big Muffs, the AEA KU4 (?? Correct me if I got the name wrong aea guys!) and the future product a little birdie told me about which BAE have coming down the track... (apologies if My sleep deprived brain missed something awesome!)

Nice one Trev!

...glad to hear u share my enthusiasm on the unfairchild.

It seems the story on that box was that they started out doing what everyone else is trying to do: make an accurate, affordable 670. In the process though, came upon a tube type that sounds ballsy and aggressive as all get out and went 'F it. We're gonna roll with this'

The fairman is the ultimate for 'smooth'. This box is in your face. They're gonna bring it over for a Shootout soon

I wanted to hear the THC but didn't have the time. What's the scoop?

I didn't actually hear it. Just going on what I know from the sound quality of the previous Burl offerings.

It has a feature set that seems exactly what you would want like such as a switchable on/off transformer, plus an added gain boost switch to give you some gain staging flexibility for tone.
