locking tuners

i have a les paul and the tuners are getting very unstable, i was going to replace them with sparzel locking tuners untill i heard that installing locking tuners on a fix bridged guitar was a waste of time? is this true?

putting a locking NUT on a fixed bridge guitar is a waste of time. Locking tuners are great for playing live. You can change strings faster than all hell. Couldn't really matter less to me in the studio.

What he said...

Also, I would not put them on an original... and they need a little design refining, but these http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/G...ss_Tuners.html are way very good...

Can someone kindly sum up the point of locking tuners in idiot terms for me?

I'd very much appreciate it.
(I understand the point of a locking nut... but I saw how Locking tuners work on Grover webpage and it just didn't click with me ... anyone care to explain?)

Warmest regards,

Scott

be careful if you have kluson style tuners on your paul
some tuners such as grovers may require enlarging
the shaft holes. You have to do a slot that has two diameters
which is a pain since the ferruls on the pegboard
still need to be the same diameter

locking tunners just lock the string in the hole
so you dont have to do the over and under
rap thing

Locking Sperzel tuners are a great idea on any guitar. As already said, you may need to enlarge the shaft hole.

Opinions differ but I still give my strings at least one turn all the way around to distribute the grip and pull of the strings evenly on the post before locking it.

... and say no to locking nuts
