Thread Starter | Acoustic guitar pickup for tuning.
I keep a couple of Korg rackmount tuners patched in to my system so I can access a tuner from virtually any point in the chain, but the one place I have problems is with acoustic guitars. It seems that LDC's don't help the tuner track the guitar very well sometimes. I figure maybe it has something to do with all the reflections in the room. So I figure why not get a cheap clip-on pickup for tuning? Any suggestions? |

The best one I have found is the Peterson TP-1 at www.petersontuners.com But all of the clip-ons I've tried (including the TP-1) are a little finicky, often on the low E string. I'd suggest you try one out in a store before buying. |

I guess I should have made this a bit more clear. I like the Korg rackmount tuners, I just want an inexpensive pickup for the acoustic guitar to interface with the tuner. I'm not getting very good tracking into the tuner thru the condenser mics. Is there a $40 acoustic guitar pickup? |

| http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...kup?sku=300132 Sound quality shouldn't matter so much if it is just for tuning. Cheers, -MIke |

Of course, since this is GEARSLUTZ, you may as well sink a little more into something you may like for more than just tuning. I'll be getting an acoustic pickup soon to do the Daniel Lanois trick of micing the acoustic and also using a pickup to send the guitar to an amp, which is then miced and blended in with the other acoustic mic to get a more interesting sound. Seems like a cool idea to me. OK, back to listening to my Syd playlist. |

If it's for tuning, just get one of the Dean Markley stick-on ones. I've used it with my nylon string guitar for live work and it does fine. The sticky stuff will wear out after a while, though. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...cer?sku=304005 |

of course, there's always the old "headphones clamped to the guitar body" trick. that usually works pretty well. there are also those korg clip-on contact mics for acoustic instrument tuning. i think they're around 12 to 14 bucks.
