Large crowds around the Logic stand?

Smug faces and some fancy never seen before new Apple Mac's or Apple gadgets on the Logic stand?

Logic PC users arrested by the metal detectors at the entrance to the AES hall?

MORE interest in the Mackie controllers?

Motu 2408 III interest?

A large sign up on the Fairlight stand "go away music engineers we don't want your business"?

People asking Radar how to get high track count 96k sessions going?

MORE interest in the Yamaha DM2000 console

96k everything? Including mini home recording devices.

Customer complaints about OMF - urging Logic DP Cubase & PT to all get their shit together? (please put in a word for me!)

I mostly expect to see old friends I only see at conventions. And I expect the same terrible LA traffic I saw two years ago. And I hope I get to see more of the country outside LA this trip. And I expect to be treated like a leper or a criminal because I use tobacco.

new toys at AES

I realize that I'm hopelessly out of step by not caring about new software, but there has got to be more physical gear coming out than the new EQ from Crane Song? (not that it ain't a big deal on its own) This is the big show for manufacturers of recording equipment and there has to be other major introductions of high quality gear, and wouldn't you expect the companies to start the buzz well in advance of the show? Either we are all in for some major surprises or this is gonna be one dull show. I guess I'll just be hanging out in the "When Vinyl Ruled...." room until they kick me out.

I should be thankful that I'm broke from outfitting our new studio with exciting things like a patch bay, monitor switching and endless quantities of cables. I'd hate to be walking around the convention with a pocket full of cash and not find anything to spend it on. (that certainly wasn't the case 2 years ago in LA when I had a very hard time making up my mind which toy I couldn't leave without.

With only a couple of weeks until the show, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Tobacco cause Leprosy? Makes sense.

Uhm, I don't expect it, but I hope to see a few pieces of gear impaled at the Mercenary stand.

For hardware, how about the Soundelux mic that's supposed to be a 47fet/87 hybridish thing?

The Stephen Paul/Studio Projects colaboration?

How far along is the Great River eq that's supposed to go in the NV's insert?

Lots of nice packing with no functioning circuitry from Harman subsidiaries? Oh, right, that's neither hardware nor software, that's vaporware.

Well you are right Steve. There IS a bunch of stuff coming out! Since we are such a small shop, I've been buried in pre show planning and not much time for posting, but here goes.

Soundelux: ifet7 (fet47/87fet at $2100)
Brauner: Phantom C (Brauner's first fet mic at $1380) plus a possible surprise
AEA R84a large ribbon ($1000), R78 replica ($?)
ATC T16 powered monitors ($3000pr)
A nearly $75K ATC speaker system on demo in the SACD room
Drawmer Tubestation 1 (mono preamp/stereo compressor, tube drive, 96K out $1000)
Drawmer Tubestation 2 (stereo compressor, tube drive, 96K out, $1000)
Z Systems: Optipatch + (15x15 lightpipe or SPDIF router, $1000) and their 126x126 AES/SPDIF router
GML ( can't say)
SoundField, a 5.1 demo that will knock yer socks off
Phoenix's DRS2 (company owner Sean will be there)

Plus other goodies over and under the table at the rest of Audio Underground manufacturers.

The Audio Underground aisle (starts around #2120) has the following companies: TransAmerica, Manley, Drawmer, GML, AEA, Z Systems, Soundelux, Brauner, SoundField, ATC, Crane Song, Great River, DW Fearn, ATR, Daking, Mytek, Quested, Mercury and am I forgetting someone??
