home made gear

Check this out

Saving up to get a pre-amp off this local guy who builds them on the side. Got to try one out at home on some recordings and it was very clean, with a natural midrange and a nice un-hyped sound. The only thing I had to compare it to were my focusrite platinum pre's and it made them sound a little harsh and boxy by comparison... but I am hoping this box will compare to some of the bigger boys like Amek, Focusrite ISA, grace etc... not sure what you can tell by the specs and rundown there, but whats your experience with stuff like this? (its not cheap, but still a bit cheaper than aforementioned big name brands) i wouldnt have to ask if i had some higher end gear to compare it to, but u gotta make do with what resources you've got eh??

Cheers

hi tor,

thanks very much for the link.

I can't tell you anything about this preamp, but was really impressed by their concept of a valve equalizer based on guitar amp-circuitry. Check out the specs of the "equator".

Just in case anyone knows about other boxes that do this "interactive" guitar amp eq-thing à la VOX, I'd be happy to learn more about it.

cheers,

michael

p.s.: I already asked warren huck @ hux for more information on the equator...

if it's clean and makes your tracks sound nice than it's good.

Trust your ears : ) They'll let you know if you're getting ripped off or not!

good luck

Jason
