Advice needed: DVD coaxial/optical to Analog converter?

Hello dear sirs,

I'm in a bit of jam trying to locate a _portable_ converter for portable dvd-players coaxial or optical output.

So the general idea is to have a easily portable setup for displaying dvds and still being able to output all the six audio channels from the dvd played.

Any help highly appreciated,
Parametex

Welll, the problem you're going to run into is that you need to find a Dolby digital decoder that isn't attached to a home theater stylee receiver. From what I've found the Dolby DP564 and some Wohler offerings will do this, but not many others.

Thank you for your fast reply.

So the coaxial connection is outputting the audio coded as dolby digital. Hmm thats not good news...

Is the optical outputs in dvd players also coded as dolby digital??

Thx,

The vast majority of the time any digital output from a DVD player will be the Dolby digital encoded signal. Some really pro DVD players may have a built in decoder that will allow the baseband digital to be outputted, but that would require additional liscensing for the AC3 decoder from Dolby. They may exist, I don't know any of them(and went on a quest for one a few months ago)

Regards,

Joel
