Please Help me Spot the Effect used in Goldie "Inner City Life"

I would really appreciate if any of you pros out there can help me identify what process is used to created this drifting pitch delay effect. Any idea what box is used or process to create this, could it be a lexicon or eventide of sorts?

Please help I have been up nights researching Rob Playfords kit used circa 1998 and no luck

Its a 20 seconds into the clip:

You'll give yourself a headache trying to figure out what Rob Playford did on that album - some of the stuff is just so amazing, especially Inner City Life!! I recall reading he had a couple of Akai samplers which he cajoled into doing stuff that simply shouldn't have been possible! Every so often an album arrives in the mainstream that genuinely breaks new ground and defines an entire genre - Timeless was it, and it's an apt title as I still listen to it and marvel at the wondrous production.

I have heard that effect more recently in several Drum n Bass tunes so i'm guessing its an effect.

I know playford used a lexicon vortex on timeless.

I don't think its an akai because their effects lack the sophistication to do a chase delay.

it sounds to me like a basic synth patch, using an LFO to modulate the amplitude to get the tremolo effect, and he's simply using the pitch bend wheel to slowly detune it manually. alternately he could've used another LFO with a delay on it, possibly a saw waveform and a very slow oscillation rate, and had the synth note cut off before the LFO phase reset.

in any case, it'd be a very simple thing to replicate using the pitch bend wheel, or basic synthesis techniques.

As above its just basic synthesis, LFO modulating amplitude to create a tremolo effect and then a pitch bend. For a minute i was listening out for something else. Thought it was going to be the twisted time stretch/pitch shift/filtered breakbeat section

You are the don!

Your advice is a bit over my head. Any chance you could send me a patch to use in Logic or something...please.

I'll post up some of my home made 808, 909, juno 106, juno 60, or jupiter 8 hi res samples to reciprocate. shoot, I'll post the samples anyways.

Love that track! The really mindblowing stuff starts at 05:12 on the album version.

Hope you find your 'preset'.

Best of luck,
Stefan

Well I figured out how to synch the LFO to the amp rather easily in Logic's ES2. That was close but too fast. I still need to figure out the OSC synched to RingMod.

If i understood what effect are u looking about is a very stupid effect.
Is just a very short sample like an hi-hat.. 32 times in a beat, just using a different pitch..
Every time is a shifted down a little.. you can do this just using a basic sampler !
You record in C-4 and then play from C-4 to C-0...
There is NO Tremolo. Tremolo happens cause the sample is very short... but silence between hits shrinks as pitch goes down so is not tremolo.
There is panning anyway
