Dream gear?

OK,

I have spent the weekend in bed with Madona, jammed for an hour with the Rolling Stones (all in my dreams) but I've never dreamt of recording gear, despite the subject being one obviously close to my heart.

I HAVE on occaision had 'recording session' dreams - these occur usualy when I have been over working and are clear sign to me that I need a break..

So... who here has ever dreamt... OF STUDIO GEAR?

never really dreamt of GEAR direct, but woke up many times with a solution for last nights studio problem. Have to keep pen and paper right next to the bed, to write it down before its out of my brain.

dream gear

This is going back aways, to a dream I had around 1970 when I was in 6th or 7th grade and we used to bring albums into school to play during music class. Ms. Zawaski (?) let us play a couple of current songs at the end of every class. I remember dragging my copy of "Let it Be" to class every week for a few months and one of my all-time favorite dreams landed me in that cramped control room with the 8-buss Telefunken/EMI desk. I don't recall any witty conversations with the band, or much else for that matter, but I can picture that room like I was standing in it.

That may be the only "famous" person dream I can remember, my usual dream pattern involves people from different eras of my life all mixed together like they belong. Can the designated forum shrink determine if that means I'll eventually own all my favorite vintage recording tools? or not.......

No equipment dreams ..... that's why I keep folders and magazines of equipment in piles in the bathroom ......

At night I dream about my girlfriend ..... probably because there's no playboy in the bathroom.

gear nightmare

I once dreamed that someone lent me a fairchild 670 for mix-down (sure...).
The fairchild was placed upright(!) on the edge of my console because no more rack space was available.
Of course, I tore down the beast by falling over a cable - bang!

Later in the dream, I tried to fix it, while the door bell rings.
Fortunately, that was the moment where I woke up...

Crazy but true.

When I was younger I used to dream of beautiful women. Just the other night I dreamed I was playing the most glorious guitar licks on a wooden table leg. I don't really know what this means.

Nope, I've never had a dream about gear. I've had the dream where I'm in session but that usually is about people and not boxes. For all you people dreaming of guitar amps and consoles... ya'll need some help.

Sometimes, that is the way I know I will get a piece of gear.

"Oooh, the new xg74e is out. I really want one, but I better sleep on it to make sure it's not G.A.S." Next morning, damn, I still want it! It's bought.

Dream of situations, but rarely gear.
Except maybe touring...when I dream of a "dim" button.

gear nightmare

I had a major nightmare while I was waiting for my Neotek to arrive. In the dream the console showed up and was a tiny little thing, like two feet long, very few knobs, not modular etc.

I had this crazy dream one time where I was swimming through all the knobs on a Mackie board (I think) and then seeing fields of Audio Technica mics that replaced the corn on stalks of corn. The most bizzare thing I've ever seen.

Only once of actual gear... plenty of session dreams.

I was spending someone elses money speccing out a studio about a year ago and basically just filled it with what I would buy for myself... I had a couple of nights where I was worried that this was not the right course of action and woke up thinking "2 distressors or 2 1176s???????" At the end of the day everyone involved is delighted but when the shopping list read the same as what I would like to add to my room I started to doubt where I was coming from for a minute!

once i dreamt of a big SSL type board... lots of lights, kinda like a G+ but not sure if it was exactly that.

and a coupla months ago i dreamt of a beautiful looking, but modern 8068 type board, WITH total reset capability. that was a nice dream.

so does that mean i'm schizophrenic, or just plain sick?

I had a nightmare about gear just last week - true story. I was holding my AKG 414 and there was a bunch of people in the studio. We were going to record some really cool Goon Show type sketches but I'd forgotten how to connect the mic. The people got angry and irritated but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't remember how I was supposed to stick the cord into the mic! True story.

Anyone care to analyze that a bit?

My girlfriend woke me up a year or so ago

She said I had a frowny face and I was saying "Give me back my RAM!" (computer memory, over and over!

That was a day after I placed a big new egg order...

I probably would dream about gear if I could only fall asleep. Seems the anxiety about getting gear is keeping me awake (that and this forum).

Now that this subject has been lurking in my subconscious...I had another one!!

I was trying to fix these power supplies that belong to MXL 9000 mics (I was doing this in real life but I had already fixed them) and the whole night I dreamt about measuring voltages at different points in the circuit. I hate dreams like that.

I hate getting shocked when I'm probing voltages while dreaming. It usually wakes me up!

Not while dreaming, but in that half-state between dreaming and waking, I have actually solved a few circuit problems that were lingering. I hear songs get written that way, sometimes. =)

Haahaha. Too bad that happened to me in real life about four days ago when I was fixing them. Note to self: Current can still be flowing even if device is turned off.

One of the most memorable dreams I ever had (many years ago) I was somehow involved in making a movie and we were putting shots together and then all of a sudden we were putting the whole thing through my Multivox tape echo. All the things that it usually does for audio were happening in video, with the sound on sound, infinite repeats, etc. Very trippy dream that I never forgot.
