the funny thing is that this record was mixed by CLA on his SSL using a ton of outboard gear....there is an article/interview about how he mixed "the black parade" in a german engineering magazine, it came out 2-3 months ago. I respectfully disagree that this special sound has a lot to do with ITB, to me it sounds very obvious (as another poster stated already) that this signature sound comes from lots of compression with way too short attack times. It is a very artificial sound, but it can have a certain magic, especially when it has been done better than on "the black parade". I bet my as* that I would think the mix rocks if CLA would have doubled the sttack times on his compressors. A good example for this sound done right are the songs of "Story of the year" - go get it on itunes, the transients punch through, clarity remains....

Rock on!

This thread was from a year and a half back.

That was all about the previous album. The new "Black Parade" album has a MUCH different sound.

CLA didn't mix the album that the thread was about.

Not the album we're talking about, Pat. This is a 2006 thread and it's about the previous MCR album. It just got dug up.

haha, should have done my homework, my bad!

funy, because the way the original poster described the sound of the chemical romance record it totally sounded like a description of "the black parade" to me....everything I dislike about it is there as described. Gotta go on itunes and buy the old songs to see if they were mixed much differently....

thanks for pointing out my mistake!
Rock on!
