Anyone external clocking a fireface 800?

[B]

I have a fireface and I think I could do a little better A/D. I think the D/A is very good. Is anyone using a better A/D through spidf or External clocking the fireface? If yes, what has the improvement been? I would prefer just clocking if that would do the job. I would buy a Mytek or something like that if I need A/D. When I come back in the computer to print my OTB mix I can hear imaging and high end loss through the fireface A/D.

Hi,
I'm using the Mytek stereo96 with the fireface. I definately hear an improvement from the FF's AtoD. But I have not experimented to see if the onboard converters actually perform better with the Mytek connected to the spdif. Many people suggest that a converter cannot perform better externally clocked. I think it was Bob Katz? However, even the manual suggests to use the internal clock for best performance. It uses the auto sync, which I'm never sure exactly how it works. I'm not sure the internal converters ARE clocked when using the Mytek.
Some slutz know this unit a little better and I would like to know as well.
Best,

Don

I was told by someone from RME that external clocking the Fireface 800 has no effect on the sound quality of the converters due to the way SteadyClock works.

Yes, Steady clock! That's what I was thinking.
