mics --> portico --> jdi --> computer mic input????

hello everyone,

i apologize in advance if this is a ridiculously stupid question. i just bought a new portico 5012 and jdi di box and want to record my friend's guzheng (chinese zither). i'm using an at 4047 on top and a sm-57 on the bottom sound hole.

i originally wanted to use my firebox but the firewire port on my computer doesn't work. i'm leaving for bangkok tomorrow afternoon (i'm in la now) and i don't have any other gear here in la, so the only option i have left is to use the computer's mic input. i originally planned to use the portico directly into the computer's mic input, but i would like to use both mics and blend the sounds.

is it possible to route the outputs of the portico into the inputs of the jdi using the merge switch to record both mics into the computer mic input? will that dammage anything?

if this is extremely ******** question, feel free to call me an idiot or otherwise flame me, but i would prefer a, "no, that won't work and here's why:" type of response. it will help me to understand things better.

*edit* never mind, i tried the portico into the computer and the signal was distorting like crazy! i'll just wait until i get to bkk to test it out.
