| Balanced vs. Unbalanced Levels Question I often see reviews of interfaces with unbalanced line inputs using outboard pres with balanced line outputs with 'no problems,' but can someone give me a short breakdown of the differences between balanced and unbalanced signals and how they relate to cabling and levels? For instance, I see cables with balanced and unbalanced connectors, and I see different reference levels for the two signals. If I am going balanced to unbalanced, am I simply not getting an even level in and out, or are there other areas of concern? Do I need cabling with balanced xlr to unbalanced trs connectors? I realize this is probably pro audio 101, remedial, but I would appreciate some clarification. -Chris |
