MIxing session for my tracks: hints/protocol/etc?

So, I've just finished editing tracks for my band's EP and we are taking it to a real studio for mixing.

Anyone have any advice on how to prepare for this, what kind of homework I can do and generally how to be well-behaved and respectful while still expressing my opinion about what we're looking for?

I've been having a hard time finding a comprehensive reference CD that has all the sounds we want to achieve, so any help in communicating that would be cool...
