Converter upgrade

I am currently using an MBOX to work with PTLE. I have invested in quality Pre's for frontend and now I'm considering improving A/D conversion.

I don't want to spend more than $1200. I notice that Mytek and Lucid make separate A/D converters.

Questions:

1) Do I need the D/A portion of the conversion?

2) Are these units a great improvement over the MBOX or is it worth saving up for a Benchmark or Apogee (including Mini ME)

3) Will there be added latency with the addition of a new converter?

3)

1 - not really. Especially with an MBox.

2 - there are always feature differences, but Mytek is absolutely on par with Benchmark, Apogee etc...but even a Lucid 2 ch. will be a substantial improvement - especially if you derive the digital clock source from the outboard converter instead of the MBox.

3 - No, but you should check to see if the direct to headphone knob thingy will still work if you are going in digital. Somehow I doubt it.

4 - You really should do a search for some of this as there are a lot of people who have posted about this stuff. IT might be really helpful.

cheers,
