Roland Space Echo question

Hi all, who has a Space Echo handy? I've got one on loan that had been rotting in a greenhouse. It worked fine for 2 days (yes, it had a new..ish tape in it), but today, it was the best wow and flutter machine in the world. The 64K$ question is: should the pinchroller spin free when it's not turned on or not? I would guess that it should, but having never taken apart one of these, I could be wrong. Increasing the pinchroller pressure on the capstan solves the problem, by the way.

thanks to anyone who can lend a hand

Karl

Yes, the pinch roller should spin. You didn't burn the motor, right?

No, the motor still works , and with a bit of extra, thumb assisted pressure on the pinchroller, the wow goes away. I should have been clearer.....the pinchroller turns, but with a resistance, a feel, like it's turning a motor...you know, like turning a capstan by hand.
