Control Surface vs. Digital Mixer for PTHD

I am looking to get some faders for my PTHD system but not something as big as a Control 24.

I don't need a monitor section, so the Command 8 is essentially a couple faders and knobs for $1150.

A digital mixer like the o1v96 would give me double the amount of faders for $2200 and every other feature of the mixer would just be a bonus. even if i never touched the pre's or mixing features, just a synth/sampler submixer would be worth it.

If the o1v96 interfaces seamlessly with ProTools (as they advertise) this is a far better value.

Anyone?

Yes, 01V96 would give more faders, but far less integration as a Command8
The 01v96 control is basically HUI.

When using PTHD, I wouldn't split it up into PT and digital mixer, keep it all in one. Command8 will suit you fine.

The O1v will only give you 8 faders at a time, not all 16 at once.
A command 8 would probably be best It has functions for comtrolling plugins and many other proTools parameters as well as fades and mutes.

Actually, the 01v96 does give you 16 at once. It essentially *tricks* PT into allowing 2 HUI's to run (sorta, but not really). I had an 01v96 hooked up to my HD XP rig, and it was pretty cool. But, I prefer a more dedicated surface, such as a Pro Control, Command8, etc.

If it were me, and I were looking for that kind of thing, I would simply grab something like a Mackie 16 channel mixer, rack mount it for the submixes, and use a dedicated control surface. Switching between HUI functionality and digital mixer finction for the submix and such would get on my nerves pretty quickly. And I personally did not care for the "learning curve" to adapt to using a non-dedicated surface for PT...and I thought control surfaces at that level of simplicity were supposed to be pretty..uhhh...simple...

YMMV, of course
