Is it possible to use 2 audio interfaces at the same time with LOGIC PRO 9?

Hi there,

In my studio at the minute my main interface is a MOTU HD192. I am using logic pro 9 and Protools 9.

I am just wondering is it possible to run 2 interfaces (one being my MOTU HD192) at once with logic?

I was thinking about adding a focusrite saffaire pro 40 or a tascam fw 1884 (just to have some faders to play with) to my setup and i was wondering if this was possible?

Thanks a million

Yes, should be possible. You would need to create an Aggregate Device under the Audio Midi Setup utility in the mac os. The link below covers the setup under Leopard, but afaik it is exactly the same under Snow Leopard and MLion.

Sure. I've used 3 Metric Halo interfaces a bunch of times. Works great. Even punching in whole bands. There might be some issues with interfaces from different manufacturers, but maybe not. Just make sure you keep track of your clocking.

You need to use aggregate devices.

Is there a way to save the aggregate device so it will remain an option in AMS after a restart?

Holy smokes! Will this work in Pro Tools?! I'm about to try it!

As a matter of fact, my aggregate device is called Pro Tools Aggregate Device. Why that's so, I'm not sure, but there it is.

Be careful to not to enable drift correction for any of the boxes. Even though it sounds like it's a good thing, it's not. Clock selection is also important (and make sure your boxes have a way to communicate word clock, whether it's directly via word clock or AES, s/pdif or ADAT.).

Have fun!
