I mostly do rock and pop bands, but I also use a couple of virtual instruments (BFD Guru Ivory etc.) I'm not into heavy programming but I want to be able to use them when needed. What would be your choice considering the fact that recording is not my primary income, but just a passion.... Thanks

Why can't you use the hardware gear with Pro Tools? As far as I know 3) would be considered most professional, due to a more powerful audio engine and great conversion quality. I'm not that familiar with Pro Tools in general since I've always used Cubase (I stopped using Nuendo since I discovered that Cubase SX sounds and also works better for whatever reasons) I would really try these setups before buying, it's a big purchase that can go wrong if you can't test these setups. Maybe you should rent these things for a couple of days and then decide?

I have no comments about Logic, I've tested an old version of it for a long time ago, the user interface was really inefficient...

Generally, don't take chances when it comes to platforms...

I am a long time Logic TDM user who has switched to Protools for 90% of my work I can twll you from personal experience that Logic is wonderful for programming and general arranging.
Protools excels at tracking, editing and mixdown.
You say you are interested in programming- well Logic would be a good choice.
But if you plan on recording and editing live drums then Protools is the way to go.

Best advice is get a HD rig and buy Logic- you can switch between apps as you like, using the TDM engine in both.

Logic TDM has some architectural considerations- but once you get a handle on it you'll be fine.
