Pitch Correction

If you need it, What would you use?

Would it be hardware or plugin?

Thanks,

Melodyne...
Autotune...
SoundToys PurePitch....

whichever one the client wants to use...its a very phsycological thing for some clients... they will hear from friends that melodyne is the best, or that autotune in the best or whatever it may be...so if you could use whatever they want you to... repeat business!!

Melodyne

Sounds amazing, easy to use.

Great for harmonies, but I wouldn't recommend copying the track and changing the pitch. This sounds weird and unnatural. The right way to do it is have the vocalist sing the part four times. Then change the pitch of three of them for a nice four part harmony. With four different performances it sounds really great.

We've got 3 things going on for pitch correction. Whichever one yields the best results for a situation is the one we choose at that time.

1. Melodyne 3
2. TC Intonator
3. Auto-Tune

There are times (although rare) when neither #1 or #2 work and we go to auto-tune and usually that'll do it if we adjust it a certain way. Melodyne is always the #1 solution we turn to, followed closely by the Intonator (which is truly incredible).

I find the most natuaral and leasy degrading results come form the Tc intonator if the vocal needs more work then I'll fire up Melodyne.

I've found much more success when using Melodyne than Auto-Tune (haven't tried the other ones.) It's much more intuitive to me, and the program just seems "smarter." It will almost always do exactly what I want it to do perfectly with very minimal coaxing.

I just used it on a couple of cello tracks last session and it completely smoked in this application. It turned a pitchy mess into a beautiful arrangement while still preserving the harmonics and subtleties of the "good imperfections" contained in the performance. I was also able to fix some slight timing issues between the cello tracks easily using Melodyne (beginnings and endings of phrases.) Good stuff!

Digital Performer, I haven't used melodyne but with what DP offers I can't see needing anything else!

In an ideal world there wouldn't be such tools

Programmers and designers have to sweat though their code just to make wanna be singers a bit descent. Puke! dfegad

Anyway, downloaded Melodyne but it generates beeps and shit so as a demo, completely useless and such forces me to stick with autotune... Antares at least gives you 10 days of FULL eveluation. Now what harm can that do?

Cheers

Always a plugin so that I can tune each note myself and put certain parts in and certian parts out of tune.

SoundToys PitchDoctor if you want transparent pitch-correction.
Also, check out Serato Pitch'n Time, SoundToys Speed and Izotope Radius if you need to transpose or tempo-shift something "as a whole" and not note-by-note...

I actually like yamaha pitch fix. But I've only tried autotune version 3 and I haven't tried Melodyne.

WOW Thanks!

So a few of you use AutoTune, I'm assuming that most of these are plug-ins your talking about.

does anyone use Antares Vocal Producer or ATR hardware for pitch correction?

I use both Autotune and Melodyne 3 (the latest version of Melodyne is a *huge* improvement, btw...), and to me, they each have their uses.

A-T is quick and easy for just a small word here or there... Melodyne takes more work, but has better results imho, so I use it for more complicated passages or to create artificial harmonies.

Tun'ing...WAVE TUNE

Hey,

I just purchased WAVES TUNE in the new WAVES VOCAL BUNDLE. Been around AUTO TUNE for a few years. Like that. But I purchased this on the basis of how much easier and more useful this tuner is suppose to be. Easier is good for upstart gearslutz guys like me. According to reviews and GUITAR CENTER TECH, (I've yet to use), You can literally set a wall for pitch and hit go and it hold thru song and do it all LIVE or on same track without pulling it out and putting it back in. And it sound much more natural and left alone after fixes...

Also, it is SUPPOSED to work with harmonic lines as well, ie: guitar...I'll be using it probably next week. But check out the specs on it. According to a few good engineers I know, AUTO TUNE is NOT the most fun software to use...This is SUPPOSE to be better.

Just thought I'd throw that thought out to you before you decide.
Yours in cheeseland, MBs
