ME-1NV+Distressor vs Mike-E?

I am in the process of researching mic preamps specifically for vocals in conjunction with a SM7B. I currently own a Focusrite ISA220 that is used for both condensers and dynamics, but I would like to add a preamp that will inject more character.
The original plan was to purchase the Great River ME-1NV and an Empirical Labs EL8X Distressor, but now I feel like the Mike-E may be a promising (read cheaper) alternative. Does the Mike-E compressor section contain enough of the Distressors magic to forgo purchasing both the ME-1NV and Distressor?

Not sure about the Mike-E I would love to try one of those as well.
I've A-B'd the LA610MKII ( $1600 ) and the Neve Portico 5015 ( $1700 )with the SM7B and I found the LA610 sounded nicer on my vocalists, ( vocals not unlike Mike Patton or Gord Downie ) The Portico was nice with a 57 on a Mapex Black Panther snare, but the compression is real subtle even when driven hard.
