Electric Guitar (passive pickups) to Kronos X

What's up guys!

I've found similar threads about this in these forums but none of them answer my question...

I want to connect my electric guitar (passive pickups) to my Kronos X Synthesizer for recording.

What would be the best way to do this?

The guys at Sweetwater.com told me to get the Radial DI (passive direct box) for $99. Which I went ahead and ordered.

But after googling around a bit, its seems that 50% of the people say a Preamp is better. Also, out of the 50% of the people that DO suggest a Direct Box, half of those say go passive, and half of those say go active. I'm so confused!

I'm hoping you guys can clarify things for me. Will the Radial DI be good or should I return it and get something else? Thanks!

P.S. I would go ahead and see how the Radial DI I got sounds, but my Kronos X is on pre-order and won't arrive until my return period for the Radial is expired (and I don't want to be stuck with a $100 useless box)

What's the input on the Kronos.
Is it mic level XLR? Is there a preamp in the Kronos for the purpose of sampling from a mic.

If so a DI will work. If the input is line level in then it won't work.

You would need a preamp to use with the DI to get line level out of pre to line in on Kronos.

According to the Korg website:

"The 2 analog inputs provide a MIC/LINE select switch and an independent level control for each channel, offering the flexibility to meet any situation."

It's line or mic level TRS. I'm pretty sure I've plugged my passive bass right in...but, any DI box will cover you for the impedence mismatch.

You can't use active IF it phantom powered...most inexpensive ones are. Just get a $100 Radial passive DI. Or a cheaper one. How good is a DI guitar into a keyboard amp sim gonna sound? I assume you're just messing around...having fun? Are the "X"s shipping already?

Thanks for all the help so far guys!

Someone suggested that I exchange my Radial DI for the Korg Pandora Mini (same price).
What do you guys think?

Will the Pandora Mini act as a "Preamp + Direct Box" in one?
(thereby eliminating the need for me to get a separate preamp or direct box)

Two completely different uses. If you need a modeller, you can do better than the Korg. The Radial is a solid traditional DI that will convert the impendence. Which again, you really don't "have" to convert. Plug the guitar in...dial in whatever AMP as an insert effect in the Kronos...go to town.

The distortion that comes from impedence mismatch is a nuance compared to whatever amp model you're gonna dial in.

If you have the Kronos...plug the guitar in and make music.
