Is music recording more or less during the summer season?

What's your experience with music recording sessions during the summer season?
I just started advertising my business but I don't know if I should wait for the end of the summer or go full out from now.

One side of me tells me that kids are out of school so they can concentrate more on their music projects, the other side of me tells me that the summer break takes people away from homes and cities.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
Bas.

summer is the season for projects, the end of summer is when people get 'serious'

I think it depends where you live. Here in Tucson, the nice season (October-May) is when many of my clients are gigging. They use the lull in gigs during the summer to record.

Total opposite where i live in the UK. May/June through to Sept/Oct is major gigging time. Winter is where everyone seems to hibernate and record!

Thank you, I'm in LA, but it is interesting to know about different cities, states, continents…

Also the demographic would be interesting data, like age and type of music if there is any consistency.

I do live in a cold highland region of Rio de Janeiro State in Brasil, and when summer comes its all about gigs, almost no recording jobs from December to March, the only people that recored at this time is people that do Gospel Music.

+1 - any serious band is off playing at festivals!

If your clients are mainly unsigned/kids (perish the thought!) then maybe it'll be better. But if your studio's ready to go...just get it out there!

Considering the current state of the industry you can't afford to "hold back". Balls out or go home. By LA do you mean Los Angeles or Louisiana?

And in my experience the winter is for writing/recording and the warmer months are for playing, especially festivals.

Year just gone by I did a fair bit of advertising during summer.

Nothing. It was horrid. I got calls from the adverts but no bookings, so I thought the adverts were rubbish.

3 months later those same potential clients called back with bookings.

This was in addition to my usual recurring clients and such, but trying to use advertising to gain some new ones (some of my old ones had moved over east) took some patience.

The best advertising is buzz. Being the studio everyone hears about, that's always in peoples minds, etc etc. Long term goal, but buying advertising is a small part of that larger goal, not the crux of it. Just to keep things in perspective.
