API 7600 as Insert In DAW -Connections

I just got back my API 7600, think always was defective from factory, now sounds MUCH louder...so I do not know if I am doing the right hook up from the back....

Please can somebody tell me what is the best way ???
Direct Out (XLR) and Line In 1/4" ??? are in red.

It shouldn't, you got the connections right but if you set the output to zero, the level you put in is the level you should see on the out.

I don't mean to highjack the thread but have a quick question, is the 'new' setting on the compressor is only working for you guys when you patch a signal to the side chain?
