| Gear addict | SFX Sample rate Hello all, I am going to be starting to build up my custom SFX library and I am stuck as to what sample rate I should record at. I was thinking 192 @ 24 bit. Do you guys have any suggestions? Also, I am choosing which microphones to purchase for all of my mobile SFX recording. I had in mind the Rode shotgun (NTG-2), or something in the similar price range. For the record am I am going to be doing everything through the MOTU Traveler. Any advice? Thanks! |

| Hey Brian, With drive space being so affordable, definitely take it up to 192k 24bit! Since the standard dub stage sample rate is 48k, this way you could safely get away with 1/4 speeding your sfx without articfacting your audio. You won't be disappointed. If you're here in Los Angeles I absolutely highly recommend going to see the guys at Coffey Sound for your mic setup. They will give you a great deal and are extremely knowledgeable in the location sound/sfx recording dept. http://www.coffeysound.com -Joe |
