MIDI input on Triton broken?

I am actually typing this up for a friend, but here is his situation. He has a Triton Extreme which he is using in conjunction with PT LE on a 002, with a midisport 4x4 MIDI interface. He sequences all of the MIDI in PT and uses his Tritons sound module. The problem he is having is that the MIDI coming out to his triton from his MIDI interface is not triggering the tritons sounds anymore. I went over there and made sure all his connections and routing was correct, which it was, and I was unable to figure out the problem. There is MIDI signal going out to the triton, because the interface is showing activity on the out of the tritons port. We tried switching cables and ports with no success. I then tried to use the triton via USB.... Success.

Does this mean that the tritons MIDI input is broken? I know that they are optically isolated but I don't know if that means they are more prone to failure.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

havent messed with the triton extreme much , but i have a producer that uses the fantom in the studio........

Check in the system menu. With the fantom. If you put it in USB mode or are using the usb, you need to enable the USB-MIDI Thru.

Basically when you go into USB mode all the MIDI is Directed to that connection. You have to turn on thru mode to pass midi out of the ports

hope this helps

Yes I know but the problem is that the Triton will not receive MIDI information via its MIDI in port, but it will receive it over USB. This is nothing to do with transmitting MIDI from the Triton, that still works fine.
