PM-1000 as OTB summing amp

Just curious to get some opinions -

I have a 16 channel PM-1000 that I had modded with direct outs. They are not my only pres, but I love the way they sound on drums and guitars.

I am going to see how it sounds as an OTB summing amp. I've never used this type of setup before. I think I will avoid using it as a traditional mixer and simply put all the faders at 0 so that I have a reasonably easy recall situation.

This is my question: When you guys mix through a 16 channel summing amp and you have more than 16 tracks, do you only run stereo submixes out to the box, or do you have "special" tracks (like maybe ld vox, kick, snare, bass, i dunno...) that get their own mono channel. How do you guys handle this?

Thanks,

Ivan

mono channel for kick, snare, vox, bass, primary gtr, rhodes/piano/b3. stereo stems for overs/toms, supporting guitars, synths, backing vox, and fx.

nothing beats analog panning on instruments, digital is not the same. and whatever else you do, don't submix itb verbs with anything else. give them their own d/a's and faders, and you'll be amazed at how much better they sit.

and please don't be afraid to move those analog faders around. your mixes will thank you.
