Anyone With a Black Lion Mod on a 002 ?

I got a 002r for my little writing and overdub rig. I've been using a Mytek AD for conversion and clock and I keep a 3124+ in their for most of the recording. I saw the the guys over at Black Lion do a mod on the 002 and it got me to thinking about condensing that rig a bit.

Does this make that big of a difference?

pres?
clocking?
conversion?

thanx,

black lion audio mod for DIGI 002

I was the 1st person to get one back about a month ago...yeah I had the "Deluxe" mod;

-the clock
-the converter chips
-the pres and analog paths

On about page 4 or so, I started posting a bunch of A/Bs, and even A/B/Cs against my Myteks. There's a bunch more as you read on from page 4.

Check it out. It sounds really good, and does it make a difference?

It's basically night and day!

There was some talk of discontinuing the converter mod not too long ago but it's still listed on the site.

Any news on that...?

from what I can tell... a bunch of folks got all in a huff and the bright folks at BLA re-introduced it with a "slight" price increase. Ah, the wonders of supply and demand...

I didn't catch the price increase on it. I suppose that was inevitable, if I remember it had to do with the cost of the converters anyways.

Thanks.

Black Lier Audio

Hi, I finally join this forum after reading your posts (thank you guys) in about 2 years now.

I simply can't resistent to talk sh1t about BLA.

Here is my story:

After reading BLA posts on Gearslutz, I have decided to send my unit (for Tweak head mod) to US (I live in europe) in hope that BLA sh1t story would not concerned me. After a couple of strenuous days my unit was on the way (june 2007).
During that summer BLA has developed their own AD/AD which I thought would be nice to wait for. I have planned to record in autumn so I waited untill August (BLA still had truble on the AD side) to recall my unit without AD/DA. Before I recalled my unit I send a couple of emails to Jim begging him for a careful test drive in all possible ways (issues that usually poped up on gearslutz) cos of shipping costs, paper work (US vs EU) and wasted time.

I'm more on musician side than studio tech so at that time I only owned AKG K240 to listen through.

My unitarrived and I enjoy listening to records and my recordings .... until I reamped my gtrs (30days after the unit arrived which wouldn't cover shipping costs back to BLA). After couple of tests I discovered noise (transformer) on all OUTs exept headphones!!!

Of course BLA wasn't intrested to cover the costs back to BLA after 30 days. I have found Digidesign Authorized Repair Centers and paid about 170USD which costed me 70$ more than sending it back to BLA. BUT saved me a lot of time, sleeples nights and a lot of paper work not mention lost faith in BLA. After repair unit worked as it should in the first place! The Repair Center told me that they made som simple/stup1d misstake in connecting the second transformer.

I have asked Jim if they are intressted in paying the bill and of course the wheren't!!

Jim promised me that the unit was checked 4 times!!!

Are they DEAF at Black Lier Audio???!!!

If you are still about to send your Digidesign product to BLA, thinking of that nothing will happen to your unit then thing again! Yes, it will happen you too!

Sell your Digi 002 or any other Digidesign sh1t product (be free from Pro Tools slavery too!) and do wise investment in Prism Sound Orpheus. Yes, it costs more but it's worth every penny!!!

Good luck
