Enough of the swordfighting !@!

Who do you like as the best female engineers and producers ????

Nothing like a women's touch to spruce up a production.

Linda Perry and Alicia Keys are the only two names that come to mind in terms of female producers, although I'm sure there are scores more. Engineers...hmm..there was this L.A. engineer at Henson Studios and The Steakhouse named Justina Powell. She sure knew her stuff!

Johnny Cash 'Unchained'. A seriously great album feat. Tom Petty + the Heartbreakers.
Enigineered + mixed by Sylvia Massey Shivey.

What about Wendy + Lisa?

Lauren Christy, she is part of "the matrix"(averil lavigne) now, but in the early -mid nineys, she had solo records that she co-produced that are wonderful and based on todays syles, infulential to say the least, very prod. technique oriented/. which eventualy led to her doing the averil stuff, shes realy good.

silvia massy (shivey) yes, shes the most recognisable. and has done allot of "rock dudes" favorite records

Trina Shoemaker - QOTSA "Restricted" f'in rocks, thats a REAL stoner rock record, and she nailed the sound. unbeleiveable.
plus like tons of other awsome stuff, throwing muses, older sheryl crow,

Missy Elliot,

some classics, mandi martin, terry becker, r.i.p

Susan Rogers is a great talent and an intuitive wizard. Susan was Prince's main engineer for years... went on to produce the Bare Naked Ladies big hit in the US. She produced a Jeff Black album years ago that I played on with the guys from Wilco... we recorded at Willie Nelson's studio 30 minutes outside of Austin... trippy studio... loved it... and loved working with her.

She was a year ahead at me where I interened - in 1982 I was the gopher teayboy she was one of the assistants. Actually there were 3 female assistants around that time.. One went off to work at Tony `visconti's Big Earth studios in Soho. The other, went to Marcus - another big studio complex.

I always go the vibe that the girls - 'had to be better' they were all VERY sharp indeed + had the bonus of female social grace in addition.

Gail Davies - as I understand it, the first female C+W artist that had it in her contract that she would produce her own stuff. Also ended up being the first ever female staff producer for a major label in Nashville (early-mid 80's?).

She was the first to kick the door open, for which a lot of more recent artists should be grateful.

We had a girl named Karen Hewitt that came from the same studio a little before my time. She went to the UK and did a lot of work with PWL.

Yep, and I'm proud to be a part of it.
I'm still in college but hey maybe one day you'll see my name somewhere.

I know that Ani DiFranco produced and engineered a lot of her own records, Imogen Heap has done the same.
Also Hilary Johnson has done a lot the Ramones to name one bands

Kate Bush!!

The production on her latest album, "Aerial" is exquisite.
She has the whole package: Gorgeous, great musical and dance chops, wickedly creative and she chain smokes fatties like normal people smoke ciggies!!

i'd have to second the imogen heap comment.. i think she took out a mortgage on her apartment and spent something like 20 K outfitting her home studio to be able to make her last record.. by herself
