Focusrite ISA 428 or other?

Hey all,

I am gonna purchase my first preamp and I have got my heart on the isa 428. I normally record country work to heavy metal music but I am mainly buying this to record vocals and bass.

Would you say this is a safe option or are there any other preamps around this price range that I should consider. O think the 4 channel is a big bonus

If your mainly using it to record bass/ vocals, do you need four preamps ? It would be great if you were thinking of doing drums and stuff, but is it overkill? The most important thing is that you thoroughly enjoy what the pre does for you. I would personally go elsewhere, but I said personally. Its all up to you, broth!

So what preamps would you recommend for my situation. I know it is up to me at the end of the day but I need to know what I am looking for before I can judge/hear

Thanks!

Honestly, there are a TON of great pres in that price range. I've had an ISA428 in my studio for years and it's always worked out great - it's not too clean and not too colored, and it's got plenty of options to help dial things in. If you need 4 channels you should also consider the 4-channel pres by Daking and Universal Audio, or if you want to increase your budget a little the API 3124 is top notch.

If you don't need 4 channels, the options open up exponentially. Do a search and you'll find endless threads about mic pres.
