wordclock/ADAT/MOTU question

Here goes -

I have a MOTU 2408 mkII that I would like to use as a standalone A/D via ADAT lightpipe to a MOTU 828 mkII in order to have 16 inputs total.

My question: does ADAT signal carry wordclock? If not, how would I set this up? Would the 828 slave to the 2408?

Thanks for your time,

Ivan

ADAT does carry wordclock.
If you only have a single lightpipe cable, you can slave the 828 to the 2408mkII.

Given it's more recent vintage, I might be more inclined to use the 828 as the Master. If you have a second lightpipe cable, run the output of the 828 into one of the 2408's ADAT Inputs Banks and set the 2408 to Slave to that input.

You could also run a bnc cable between the units and set the wordclock hierarchy accordingly.

ADAT carries a sync clock, but is that actually WordClock...? I thought WordClock is always separate on BNC-connectors...

Anyway, in most cases, the internal ADAT sync will be sufficient, but if you run into problems, try WordClock and you'll get it working for sure.

Yes, lightpipe carries wordclock. TDIF does not.

No kidding...? I was sure that the ADAT clock was some other sort of clock... Well, you learn something new every day...thumbsup
Maybe that's the explanation to why I never managed to notice any difference when running with or without the BNC WordClock.
