best all-in-one interface

I'm looking for an interface, preferably firewire, can be PCI, but I need something with great convereters A/D/A, great mic pre's, ADAT options, and high sampling rates.

what would you recommend? I want to be able to have the option to go protools, but no big deal if it doesnt support it. I Currently use Cubase 3 SX.

I will be working on a PC but the MAC will be here in about 2 months

Budget: $3,000

A few suggestions:

Apogee Ensemble might be good, particularly on the Mac end of things. I think it meets all your criteria, plus Apogee is well known for their converters.

M-Audio's Firewire 1814 has pretty good converters and is less expensive, plus you could run Pro Tools M-Powered on it (and it would run with your PC). Or if you want a control surface on top of that, their Project Mix I/O might be a way to go. I keep hearing mixed reviews about the Pres and converters in the Project Mix (mainly here.) Several people who use it say their fine, though I have read some naysayers indicating that they are pretty poor. Don't know if that's experience and technical knowledge talking or just gearslutz elitism

Haven't used the Project Mix myself yet (it's in the budget right now, so I'll let you know once I get to try it out), but I do use a Delta 1010 on an old PC, and frankly I think it sounds great. I'd take their converters over those of Digidesign's LE hardware any day of the week. The HD stuff, on the other hand...

My 2 cents.

All in one (with control surface) that Projectmix IO by M-Audio is indeed worth a look. Really a very powerful tool for little $$$.

Metric Halo Mobile I/O 2882.

It is Mac only but you said you were fixing that problem shortly.

Check this box out. There are plenty of us on here that are using it with great success and joy.

If i got the Metric Halo, would I be able to use some cheap m-audio card/interface to use Pro Tools. I imagine the halo isnt compatible with pro-tools on its own. right?

This is definitely a good option.

The 2882 and you will have enough cash for a ProjectMix and PT Mpowered so you can have a controller and use ProTools.

2882: $1500
ProjectMix: $1200
PT MPowered: $250

$50 under your $3000 budget and you have everything you need and then some.

YOu do not say how many channels you need?????

So far, I will pass on all the suggestions.

For 2 channels, my current thinking is:

Tonelux 2 channel Pre/AD box thingy and
Lavry Black

If I didnt need more channels, I swear...!!!!
