JBL D130 vs Altec Lansing 418

How do these speakers compare and contrast?

Which one is warmer, bassier, brighter, etc.?

Thanks!!!

Never spent much time with these but with the 12 inchers the JBL was noticeably brighter and a tad more efficient. The Altec is more midrangy although nothing like a Celestion. I never cranked the JBLs but the larger voice coils may result in some rolling off at very high volumes. The 3" coils in Altecs and EVs do this noticeably, so the heavy cone and 4" coil of the JBL should have even more inductance and roll off. Maybe that's how Dickie Betts tolerates the D130s.

I used to run 130's and 120's (or their variants in the Sunn cabs and Fender Twins at the time) and at one point got to try a cab with what I believe were three fifteen inch Altecs.
Assuming that was the 418 (were there others in the line?), my memory was of it being a lot looser or a softer/easier breakup, and an odd impression though that remains- their sounding like paper.
Or, from the other angle, JBL's cleaner, more dynamic.
Understand this from a hell of a long time ago too. Playing style- 335, and quite a bit on the cleaner side of things.
