Does anyone actually use the converters in this box?

I don't, and what I gather from others is that it's mainly used as a convenient high resolution digital recorder.I use it for intermediate transfers from my DAW and processing gear.

Thanks man...I'm just rying to gauge how many folks who use the box to print mixes use other converters. I got a pretty strong opinion now after using it for a year - now I just want to poll the crowd....

I use the PSX-100 before going into the masterlink.
works very well for me when I make a two track master.

I use Lucid and Benchmark converters with my Masterlink. That said, the internal converters really aren't bad--if you're on a tight budget, you could definitely do worse.

I've been absolutely stunned by how good some projects I've mastered sounded that were mixed to a Masterlink. The best was recorded 24 track analog and mixed using an SSL 9000. The first question I had for the engineer was "Wow, WHAT converter did you use?"

Happy Masterlinker

I use my Masterlink for Mastering! I do a lot of 'acoustic' music. I have had projects mastered in hi end facilities, which when compared to the MLink, got rejected. The level boosting limiter in the MLink is very transparent. If anything it warms the sound. I have compared it very carefully to L1 and Finaliser. It won. I am looking forward to comparing it with the L2. I believe that little limiter alone iis worth the price of the MLink.

OOps

With my eulogising I forgot the question.... I have compared the converters in the MLInk with other cheapies which are quite good I believe- HHB CDR 850- O2R- Finaliser. The MLink did not fare well. The Finaliser was very noticabley best, with the DSP bypassed of course.

HEDD to Masterlink and back

I'm not sure I've monitored something mixed to the Masterlink A/D, through the HEDD D/A... I'll have to try that, it may improve my opinion of the Masterlink A/D, which is not real high so far.

FWIW, even a tiny gain change with the DSP in the thing does things to the sound that I do not want done to the sound. Not nice things.
