headphone monitoring system for daw

I have a daw system that uses a Lynx L22 card.

The card has 2 XLR outs - but *no headphone out*.

I don't really need a mixer but I do need to be able to monitor w/ 2 sep. headphones - engineer and performer in the same room.

Right now the XLR outs go straight to the speakers.

What would you recommend to add in the output chain to be able to monitor w/ phones but not degrade the signal going to the speakers?

I use a Samson C-control. Costs about $100 and has a Headphone output, as well as several control outputs for multiple monitors, talkback, cue, etc....a great little unit.

NOTE: someone on the Lynx listserv claimed to have gotten hearing damage as a result of using the Lynx card (don't recall which model) with headphones. Something about a spike of loud distortion...so becareful. The distortion bit happened to me too, but I luckily wasn't wearing headphones. Basically a plugin got fried so the track went nuts...
