Bass Path

Any advice on a quality pass path for my studio under 1K$? I mostly record rock/folk/pop stuff.

Are you recording an amp with a microphone, or are you wanting a di option? Or both?

I guess I still don't know how to answer. What do you have already?

As in, do you have have a bass and amp and di and microphones and preamps? Are you looking for pres? mics? di? compressor? everything?

Sorry. I am speaking of the preamp path. I have mics galore and several good amps but my DI line sucks.. Would love a nice unit to bring my DI path to life.

SansAmp bass driver... A couple different versions, both pretty versatile.

A used LA/610 would work for sure.

Sansamp RBI or RPM for a "colored" option capable of doing the "overdriven SVT" thing.

Kern IP-777, or A-Designs REDDI for a very fat, very clean tone.

Avalon U5 for a slightly colored tone, but a lot more wiggle room in post.

Jules Monique for an Ampeg B15 in a preamp.

Glockenklang bass art, or any of their stuff is top notch, never heard better.

For decent McCartney/Motown tones I run through a Tech 21 Blonde into a Tab Funkenwerk v71 DI. For a more modern tone I plan on getting a Sansamp Bass Driver.

I personally like the Countryman Type85 DI. Works for a lot of genres.

sansamp classic and rackmount work great for gnarly rock'n'roll bass sounds.
for deep / warm bass sounds nothing can beat this:

Groove Tubes Studio Series Tube Bass Preamp - can be found incredibly cheap, sounds marvellous, and has a lot of EQ options. There's also an old SWR unit which is supposed to be 100% identical.

I only use straight DI if I want to do some re-amping or processing later, but then I've had good experiences with the Demeter Tube Di, the Groove Tubes Brick, and with the DI input on the Drawmer 1969 mercenary edition.
