Remote VO over telephone

What are the options technically to get a good quality VO recording over a telephone line, especially of the person on the other end has no technical knowledge.

Is it any different if it's in Europe?

My question is why wouldn't you record it and exchange the files via internet or use an internet type connection? Is it because the person on the other end has no technical knowledge?

Get the person at the other end to book some time in a local ISDN-equipped studio.

There is more than one location and not enough time to send someone there. We don't have the European location yet. The locations are remote enough that it's unlikely that there will be an ISDN equipped studio. I'd record it myself, but the one known location is 8 hours away.

I'm just compiling a list of options. Getting some one local is the obvious one. Skype, or an iPhone voice memo are possibilities. FedExing a preset zoom recorder and mic is an option. I'm just looking for anything else.

Check out SourceConnect from Source Elements. Same idea as ISDN but does it over a regular internet connection. Getting it set up takes a little time, and depending on the connection at either end, it can be either totally smooth or a bit glitchy in operation, but when it works it works well. I think you can download a trial.

Send it

I`d recommend Send it from MAYAH - a big player in the Codec Business.
SendIt4.com - Professional Low Delay Audio over Internet - powered by MAYAH Communications GmbH

Sourceconnect needs an ilok, if the other person on the other end is not tech savvy that won't work. I used it once and it worked but took an hour to smooth the glitches and still had a problem that was never corrected.

I'd just mail a Zoom H1, record with a mic on speakerphone on your end, sync them up later. (Zoom clocks drift like crazy though so long recordings need extra work to sync well).

Best if the unit is already on and recording, that way they don't have to do anything.
