Thread Starter | KRK Rockit 8 Monitors.... Opinion I can get a screaming deal on a pair (or a trio) of KRK Rockit 8 powered monitors. I can get a bettter deal on the 5" (?) version, oo. Any good? I have JBL 4401s, Tannoy PBM6.5, JBL T38 Barons (D120 and a bullet) and a pair of UREI 813 Time Aligns. Crown D-150a and D-75 for power. Yeah, the UREI 813s need a bigger amp, but I rarely fire 'em up. I know that a lot of people use KRKs. Danny Brown |

| Lives for gear | I recently changed from the Tannoy PBM 6.5 to the KRK ST6 (because I needed shielded monitors, not for sound reasons). I thought that was quite an improvement. I only heard the Rokit series once in a shop, so I really can't give any serious comment on those. I don't know the size of your studio, but under normal circumstances the 5 should be big/loud/substancial enough. In any case of course try to compare the monitors to your existing ones in your room before you buy. If that's not possible, change your dealer. My two (Euro-) cents... |

| My girlfriend has the 5 inch model as computer speakers ($249!). They are astounding for that investment. I brought them into my control room and put them on proper stands and was amazed further, comparing them to pretty expensive gear. Money goes a long way in the low end these days. My guess is that the 5" model would out-perform the KRK 8 inch model for midrange detail. A hip hop artist, otoh, would likely prefer the 8 inch design. Best, John- |

| If you can get a good price I would definitely say that the 8's are worth having. I was given a pair by a friend who closed his personal studio and moved over a year ago and I find that they are useful (was going to trade them for the KRK V6's but found I actually liked the (much cheaper) Rokit better. I have Dynaudio's that are my main near-fields but I do check things on the KRK's and get useful information. Stand alone they are not unpleasant (a bit of mid-range harshness but not crazy) and the 8's carry enough bass to use for most music styles. For the price their spatial imaging is the best I have heard. Stephen |

| I have Rokit 5 on my surf computer and KRK V4 in the studio... I don't like the Rokit 5's for mixing.. The sound is muddy and hyped, hard to mix on etc. My opinion is that the V4's are miles better. The Rokit seems to have more low end and sound more hyped. They do fine for multimedia and watching movies, listening to mp3 etc.

| I dig my rokit 5's. (BSWUSA.COM = Dirt Cheap) Between them and my Sony7506 headphones I've gotten faily good at getting whats in my head to translate on other systems.

| The RP8 are good bang for the buck, good low end response although the mid detail isn't all there compared to the V series. They get real loud if that matters to you. The RP5 are a good budget monitor, with a little bit of hype going on the lower mids / bass range. They have a bit of a soft sound to them, and can't be pushed to very loud levels without the amp giving up. For under $200 a pair they do a lot though. The Tascam VL-X5 are simply a better balanced speaker, with a linear response, and about as much truth and honesty you are going to find in the sub $300 category. They get loud too and stay clean at loud volumes also. In a lot of ways I think home studio guys are better off with these even vs the RP8 style stuff. My $0.02 War

| i have used my rocket 8's for almost two years now, and i love mine. i find however that they have an excessive bass response, so i'll find myself eqing my speaker sends to roll off some of the low end. also generally i'll engage the +1 HF because i find it evens out the response... |

| What are you using the monitors for? Tracking? Mixing? I've been researching the KRK Rockit Series for mixing purposes. From reviews I've read and the demos I've gotten at stores the 8' blows the 5's away. If you can shell out the extra money I'd go for the 8's, I'm about to do the same. |
