oasis>the beatles??? no way

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060601...s_060601105226

there is an old ironic proverb which is very appropriate after reading that article:

eat sh*t; 100,000,000 flies can't all be wrong.

Depends on who participated in the poll.

Demographics play a role.

looks like it was an NME poll, so it's really not all that surprising i guess. of course, i don't really take this very seriously.

if the NME demographic prefers recycled beatles to the real thing we can chalk that up to good marketing, kids not wanting the old stuff, etc etc. now i really don't think oasis is a terrible band at all. i just don't think they can seriously be rated in the same ballpark at all as the beatles.

You know, aside from the lyrical references, I don't hear much Beatles in Oasis.

I hear more Beatles in Nirvana.

Oasis was a fun, loud as f*kk rock and roll band that wrote some catchy numbers.

The Beatles, well, they were more than that.

That new Pontiac looks something like an old Porsche from a half-mile away, coming at you at night. It also has wheels, tires, etc.

Uh huh.

Pffft. The lyrics change but the tune is still the same.

I can still remember when the Bay City Rollers were being touted as "the band who eclipsed the Beatles phenomenon". Yeah right...

And before that it was the Monkees.

Honestly, the hacks that wrote those beat-ups had no idea. And I'd give this poll no greater credence. The Beatles shifted the public's consciousness globally, changed the course of popular culture and left a vast body of work that will still be referred to in centuries. Oasis (and sundry other pretenders) have trodden a well worn path that was *paved* by the Beatles. That doesn't give them the same place in history - not remotely.

I know every Beatles song. And I've never even heard Oasis. I plan to keep it that way.

They seem to think they are judging from their quotes

I don't think they sound like the Beatles, but they do sound like a British rock band.

most who vote in these polls are too young to even know who the fukk the beatles were.

it'd be like asking my niece:

"Who do you prefer: Sabbath or Britney?"

thanks to nme for the incredibly useless poll, that holds absolutely no water what so ever.

imho

Both are great bands, and Noal (Isn't that the lead guys name) sounds just like whiney Lennon sometimes.

I am in love with about a dozen or so beatles songs the rest, even though they are mostly great songs I just can't listen to cause they sound so horrible especially when crap is panned hard left and right.

Listening on Vinyl however is always delightful

More people voted in the American Idol finals than voted in the last US Presidential election.

Oh yeah, almost forgot.. Children can't vote in presidential elections...

I thought Oasis were good when their first album was released but unlike the Beatles, who growed as a band and wrote better and better songs, Oasis just wrote worse!

But I still listen to that first album from time to time! Great rock'n roll!

I don't know about that, but Ringo's son guest starred as the drummer for one or two of the songs on one of their albums.

I'd look up the details, but I'm lazy. This did happen though

For me probably the biggest difference bewteen Oasis and the Beatles is that the Beatles were inovators and were constantly pushing themsleves and the boundaries of what they were doing. In contrast Oasis keep on churning out the same vibe instead of trying to re-invent themsleves like the Beatles.

Oasis ain't the Beatles but have you ever seen them play?
Simply the best live rock band out there right now for my money.
Remember the rock? Plus, I'd take Liam even with his antics
in my band any day. Great freakin' frontman.

They're big enough in America, but from what I understand, overseas they're ****ing gonzo over them. I for one completely adore Oasis, and I think their latest album is totally underrated and overlooked. It's really fantastic.

Can any British slutz attest to how much England loves them?

"Who do you prefer: Sabbath or Britney?"

Sabbath were/are a bunch of ugly ass British guys.

Britney is one nasty looking little Louisiana trollop.

I prefer Britney.

I would like to hear her cover Iron man.
While wearing low cut jeans.
The dancing would be great I bet!
