how would i hook up a hedd for d/a monitoring?

002r spdif out------hedd spdif input-----hedd spdif out (but this spdif out is being used for tracking so this is where i do not know what to do)---central station spdif input----monitors.

am i going to have to re patch everything every time i want to go from tracking to monitoring?

seems pointless to have d/a if i can not use it while i am tracking.

help!

Hedd analogue out to cs analogue in.

If you go spdif into the cs, you're using the cheap conversion on that instead of the expensive conversion on your hedd.

The cs digital input is redundant for you.

002r spdif out------hedd spdif input-----hedd analog out-----cs analog in.

so i can always use the hedd for da monitoring with out having to repatch.

ok wait now i have another question.

if i am going spdif out of the 002 and spdif into the hedd then isnt the signal being converted in the digi rather then in the hedd? so shouldnt i be going analog out of digi 002 to analog in on hedd than to the central station to the monitors??

i am a bit confused on this.

You had it right the first time.

Digi002 S/PDIF out -> HEDD S/PDIF in -> HEDD Analog out -> Central Station

The HEDD receives digital S/PDIF from the 002, converts it to analog.

Those old HEDD's sound fantastic.

SPDIF transfers a digital signal. You want a digital signal from the 002 so that the HEDD can convert it to analogue.

ok cool, so far so good but wont i run into latency issues with everything coming out of my cs (cue mixes)?

You can still use low latency if you select mirroring on the 002 outs so the spdif and analog 1-2 are mirrored

I was wondering the same, but will use it as follows:
- Motu 828mkII spdif out -> HEDD spdif in
- HEDD spdif out -> Motu 828mkII spdif in
- mic pre analog out -> HEDD analog in
- HEDD analog out -> active near fields analog in

Question:
Does the HEDD analog out (for monitoring) always function at the same time as the spdif out - no matter if I use the HEDD analog in for the mic pre or switch the HEDD to spdif in and spdif out for digital processing?
