Coincident pair for overheads - which way do they point?

Sorry to ask this, but are they looking down vertically over the kit like V or horizontally towards the drummer?

I presume if you're using room mikes like this a few feet from the kit they would be horizontal?

There's probably alot of right answers, but what I do is imagine the drummer and his kit occupying a globe of the world... the surface is maybe two feet off the cymbals? three feet? and I put the overheads over Alaska and Norway, respectively, facing straight down to the center of the Earth.

for everything you need to know (well some theory anyway)

click on "microphone university" then "stereo techniques"

there is also some overhead specific info in there somewhere
