MV692 - Convert to 48V or stay with PS?

I've read varying opinions about whether or not to convert an MV692 to 48 volt/XLR. I just bought one with the 691 double power supply. With the one foot XLR converter cable, that's a lot of cables if I use the power supply. I have read, however, that converting the mics to phantom can result in a lessening of performance. Does anyone have experience with this situation? Also, is there a reason why I shouldn't run my 691 using a regular 220>110 voltage converter? Is it better to convert it to 110 operation?

Thanks,

Jim

If you´re mobile with a small/cheap recorder, it would make sense to keep the power supply and not be dependent on a crappy 48V source.

I recommend you the Andreas Grosser Mod for the MV691, it´s brilliant!
Since about one year he uses a new Fet, which brings the noise down to next to nothing and opens up the mic. The sound will be much more clear, focused and natural. It brings the mic to a new level.

Or Microtech Gefell converts these mics, for a quite reasonable fee. I never heard that the conversion to 48V would make them more noisy.
