| I know this unit has been discussed a couple of times, But in all threads I can find, it is primarily mentioned as a great buss compressor. (or being compared to ssl, c2 etc) -Not so much about it's quality on individual tracks! So to all you long time c1 owners: Whats your experience with it when you track vocals, bass, and guitars etc? What's good, and what's not so good? I know the Smart c2 is a more suited tracking comp when looking at the spec, but my first priority right now is to buy a great buss comp. (But it would not hurt if it could do a little magic on individual tracks as well )Thanks:-) KK ![]() |

I supose it is used for a more aggressive type of vocal then, and would it be fair to assume that it is rather limited in that way? KK ![]() | |

| The C1 is essentially the same as the C2 minus the crush function, I have not used a C1 but I own a C2 which is a superb stereo buss comp if not one of the best. I live in Australia, so when I bought my C2 I bought it straight from the man himself Al Smart, I had the pleasure of chatting with him for a little while about both comps, so I decided on the C2 after his recomendation. The crush function I use rarely but I do use it on certain things. Crush can be fantastic on some instruments which need to stand out, can work wonders on string sections as well. I use the c2 everyday for stereo buss comp and recording vox. They are both great comps so you really can't go wrong with either if you are after the SSL comp style sound.

| I've owned both at various times. The C1 is freakishly close to the 384. If I needed to reach for a C1 to do the SSL thing, it would deliver. Great tracking comp too, and more versatile than a 384 since it can do dual mono. |

I totally agree with that statement. If anything the C1 is slightly more agressive then the 384 IMHO. I use a C1 on kick and snare close mics with just a touch of compression and it works a treat. |
