Thread Starter | AMS-Neve 1073 DPD help. digital-digi 002
so i just got one of these on loan and i want to use the converters on the DPD to bypass the converters on the 002. the 002 doesn't have AES/EBU so how do i connect this? what cables do i need? BTW this thing sounds f***ing amazing on kick and snare! |

Calm down guys...... Another fellow dpd owner here to help.... I posted already in Jump's thread... but here's what i posted Man i used to have a very similar setup until i got rid of my digi002r.... But i do have a dpd and Rosetta800... None the less.... There are several ways you can do this.... 1. Hook up the dpd directly(well you need an aes to spdif coverter) to the 002 via aes out.... and then conect the Rosetta200 via adat... and clock everything to dpd which will make the 002 conversion significantly better.... as well as being able to record 4channels of great conversion simultaneously.... down side, however, is you want be able to record at sample rates higher than 48 because of adat.... 2. Hook dpd up through aes to Rosetta200.... Get aes to spdif converter to go from rosetta to 002.... With this option you be able to use any sample rate but be limited to 2channels at a time... However you can still choose to clock everything to the dpd which has an amazing clock source.... The converters on the dpd are really great so in either setup you will take advantage of it.... Hopefully this will help.... Dr. Clisby |

That's weird it doesn't have a SPDIF or lightpipe output... considering the people who are buying them are usually hooking them up to a Digi 002 or similar interface. I wonder if these AES to spdif boxes affect the clock or add jitter, etc.

Are you talking about the rosetta or the dpd...... THe rosetta definitely has adat out... and in for that matter but no spdif..... The 1073dpd only has aes/dsd.... that's it.... but enough..... I never really wondered if the digital signal was being compromised by using the neutrik conversions.... that's a very good question..... anyone got an answer.... Maybe a question for the people over at Mercenary to answer.... Dr. Clisby | |

The amount of jitter is determined by the original a/d converter and its clock. The better the design of the converter and its clock, the lower the jitter. A digital transfer never adds jitter or disturbs the clock. One is only "routing" an AES stream through a spdif converter and changing the impedence of the interface. ==========> Jitter is NEVER added in a digital transfer Please read Watkinson: The Art of Digital Audio For the situations above an AES to spdif converter is fine. |

| 1073 DPD connected to a digi 002?
Hey guys, Hopefully one of you all can help me out...please be patient with me as I have been doing this stuff for years but have always had problems when it comes to word clock, and sync sources, etc. So I will probably ask a few beginner questions. I just bought a 1073DPD and have a 002. I have no idea how I am suppose to hook this thing up to the 002 to use the AD converters in it? I do have a Lucid Technologies ADA1000 but that will only let me go up to 48 khz, so I want to find a way to go through my dpd at 88.2khz, and eventually come out the lucid at 44.1? Is that possible? My main goal is to bypass as much of the Digi's ADA converters as I can. Is there a way to hook up the 1073 so that I am always using the two channels of ADC since I never record more than 2 channels at a time? Any help would be great as I am really excited to hear this thing but want to make sure I hook it up the best possible way. Thanks guys. |
