How are people getting a mono channel for use with AUX devices in the Analog domain?

I'm curious as to the 'normal' procedure for integrating mono effects with stereo sources?

I realize this is mostly done with mixers, but does a mixer sum a stereo bus to a mono send for this purpose?

How could one do such a thing with stereo pair channels in normal application of limiter/delay type effects.

In Cubase I'd just make a mono send from a stereo track and that is that.\

cheers

I'm curious how to go about this (I'm currently doing 500 series channels for all my pairs) so I have no idea how to use something that is strickly mono, then bring it back to another mono or stereo channel (mono->stereo fx).

Will a Y-Adapter work or do I need something to properly merge signals and keep phase minimal/degredation of signal?
